..makes a man, healthy, wealthy and wise. Another great statement from our quote of the week from Benjamin Franklin. I should add that I am sure this early to bed statement works the same for women as well...which is nice!
Today's blog actually comes in what is tomorrow for me. By the time I left the office it was after midnight, and by the time I started writing this, it was after 1pm. So I have to ask myself. As the demand for my success in out running The Piper and his Wave grows, does the demand for my personal time need to be shifted to allow for my professional and financial growth?
I guess that this is the game, or more accurately, the balance that we all seek. How much do I give to grow professionally, so that I can live, personally and financially?
To help answer this I return to our friend Mr. Franklin and see that he was apparently able to out whit his Piper and Wave by knowing how to not only understand his debts, but to also balance both his personal and professional time.
It has also been said that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Well, today I turn my attention to history. After all, this whole blog started when I looked up to see that I was well within the piecing glance of my Piper and the shadow of his Wave.
So during my midnight ride tonight, I spent time thinking about the words of Old Ben, and came to realize that the view of my journey has now had clarity added to it. If I am to reach my goals and slay the Piper and demolish his Wave, I must also work on my Life to Work balance!
So, in the spirit of learning from history, I ask you all for your comments on how you have learned to balance your life and work?
As always, thank you...The Runner.
I always had faith in you - the goodness that was buried inside of you- proud of your new found freedoms! I knew carrying you to go to religion classes was just a lesson you need to learn...LOL. keep up the blog- it inspires me to lessen my load., but those darn kids of mine would go crazy without TV.
ReplyDeleteYour journey has really started now. To be able to look back and reflect on what we have done in the past and grow from it is not something many learn to do. I hope you see me during all this with a new found love and confidence, both of which I know you have an abundance of...
ReplyDeleteAs for my balance in life, has just recently came, once I knew my children were healthy, happy and independent. A mothers true gift from her children. I am starting to reap the benefits and enjoy the time, love and patience I have given (and still continue to give) to my family. I too, will start reflecting on my childhood, and maybe I can see what makes me....ME!
For both Anonymous and Anonymous, first let me say, thank you for your comments, and second, I am very grateful to see that the journey towards balance, specifically, is one that is shared my all.
ReplyDeleteWith changes in life, the addition of kids along with the releasing of your kids on to the world, there seems to be more a need to find balance throughout life, and for many different reasons. And while I think each of these are marked with a milestone, I must admit that your sharings of how you still look for the right balance do put me at ease, and make me realize that it is a long journey.
Thank you both for your responses...The Runner
Wow, that is a great question. I think you must first determine what is important to you and what you can do without. For me, its work, home and downtime. Everything else is put on the back burner. I like having a nice full day to get everything that I want to accomplish, accomplished. But my personal space and time to decompress is extremely important in keeping me and my life in balance. It's ok to schedule downtime like you would any other activity in your life. But as with anything else, too much of a good thing can have some negative effects. Hope that helps!
